Before You Boast about Being A Virgin

Answer this question, are you a virgin with virtue?

I'll start this discussion straight away by going straight to explain the keywords. What or who are virgins and what does virtue mean?

According to Wiktionary, a virgin is "a person who has never had sexual intercourse, or sometimes, one who has never engaged in any sexual activity at all". There are two parts of this definition, the first is "a person who has never had sexual intercourse". This is the most accepted and widely known meaning of a virgin. When you call someone a virgin, people would get the idea that the person has never had sexual intercourse. The second part of the definition is "one who has never engaged in any sexual activity at all" but it has "sometimes" before it which makes it conditional. It means one could have engaged in other sexual activities e.g kissing and still be regarded as virgin. Now what is virtue? Virtue can briefly be defined as "moral excellence".

The reason for this discuss is the fact that virgins in our society are supposed to be regarded as people with high moral excellence, that is virgins are supposed to be people with virtue but a lot of them are "virtueless". Some of them are nothing to write home about when it comes to morals. Some of them actually justify the saying "virginity is lack of opportunity" even though the saying is not true in all cases.

Now, I'm not trying to say being a virgin is wrong or not good. In fact, I'm a supporter of idea of keeping your virginity till your wedding night, it's the best. Only your spouse deserves to get a taste of it and not just someone you're dating. What I'm addressing in this post is the need to be a virgin with high moral values.

Are you a virgin who involves in other sexual activities? Are you a virgin who allows people touch your sensitive parts and enjoy the arousal it causes? This means you're part of those who justifies the saying I quoted in the previous paragraph. It will get to a day you'll be greatly aroused that you'll finally lose that virginity, that is when you finally get the opportunity, you lose it.

Are you a virgin with disrespectful attitudes? Are you a virgin who lacks manners? Are you a virgin who addresses people rudely? If you are, then I've got to ask you this; What exactly are you proud of when you boast about your virginity? Do you think your spouse only marries your "virginity"? Come on, you should build your manners and be the best morally. Address people with respect and care. If you can keep your body undefiled, keep your attitudes and manners too. They're also things to be proud of.

Finally, answer these questions. Are you a virgin without any value? Are you a virgin without any special skill or developed gift? What makes you different from people that has lost their virginity? Are you only different because you have not had intercourse? If there's nothing else about you that sets you apart, if there's nothing else that attracts people to you, you need to develop yourself. Add value to yourself. Have a special skill that'll differentiate you from others. For example, don't be a virgin who does not know how to cook or don't be a virgin who doesn't have any creative idea or advice to give to a partner at any point in time. You need to seek information, be sound, don't let people credit your virginity to ignorance or being uncivilized. Let your life be enviable to others, let them want to be a virgin because they see you and like your life.

So, I applaud you for keeping your body. Please do till your wedding night. Abstinence is the best, best for you, best for your relationship with God. But please, also add excellence in other areas of your life.
